Playing More Consistent Golf

Consistency is what all golfers strive for, but it can be very elusive . All of us has those special days when everything works , but those successes can be fleeting occurences . There are things we can do to prepare for success on the course. Here are some important ways to play more consistent golf:

Warm Up Properly – You can’t wait until the 3rd or 4th hole to get loose . By that time you’ve already made too many bad shots and a low score isn’t going to happen . Save extra time for stretching and hitting some balls, and practice some putting to develop the feel.

Forget The Past Holes – Don’t think about your past bad shots . Look forward to the next hole as an opportunity to redeem yourself . Thinking about past bad shots will only lead to negative thoughts.

Play Your Game – You’re very aware of your strengths and weaknesses, play to your strengths . It may mean laying up occasionally or playing an iron off the tee. Forget your ego, just do what you can do and don’t try to copy a playing partner who is a big hitter .

Ignore The Beer Cart Girl – You are not going to play your best when drinking alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic drinks promote dehydration. You need to stay hydrated with water or a sports drink that will keep you from cramps and fatigue.

Read More Break In Your Putts and Play More Club – The most common mistakes are not using enough club and not reading enough break in putts.

Practice During The Off Season – Find an indoor practice facility and use a simulator with the purpose of practicing. While hitting with the full swing use all of the clubs in your bag and not just your driver. Make your practice session fun and keep in mind that you’re trying to improve your consistency. Don’t forget to practice on the putting green, it’s most important.

Be Devoted To Exercising – An 18 hole round of golf isn’t much exercise. Stick to a daily exercise routine that focuses on flexibility and strengthening your core muscle groups.

Have Goals -  Challenging yourself to hit fairways and greens is also an excellent way to focus on a goal. Perhaps the most important one is putts . Keep track of putts for your next few rounds and record your lowest number. Focus on improving that number. Reduce the number of putts per round and you’ll shoot lower scores consistently.

Stay Relaxed – Tension and lack of focus can do a lot of damage to your game. Play each shot as it comes, you can only mentally handle one at a time.

Playing consistent golf is a challenge for all of us, but the answer lies in being prepared and knowing your game’s strengths and weaknesses.
